Home-Made Power Hammer

Big Kenny and Gandalf teamed up on the soundtrack for this one,  but if you can get through the  music here then you will be rewarded by what, I think, is a pretty impressive machine.

The Demon Hands

Whatever your opinion of Burning Man may be; the evolution of the entertainment juggernaut has undoubtedly brought about many interesting results.

One of them comes as a benefit to living here at the cultural ground zero of BM.
Each year the Bay Area plays host to several large-scale projects that vary in complexity, style and aesthetic quality. Getting to personally witness all the projects (funded or not) go through their design, and building stages is both a learning experience and a pleasure.

Backbone Metals has been fortunate to be involved with (in our opinion) some of the cooler ones. This year we have taken a very limited, duel role in the Raygun Gothic Rocket project as a fabricator and experimental video artist. More on that later.

Additionally, this season we were asked to be involved with another project being built down the street by a past collaborator on the Art Across America project, Ryon Gesink. For the past few years, Ryon has been in the midst of an ongoing project that has no apparent end. The latest phase includes two robotic, fire-breathing demons resting in large steel thrones. The imagery is an amalgam of inspiration from Francis Bacon, H.R. Geiger, and antiquated military technology.

Ryon asked us to build the hands of the demons.
