You might be wondering why, after so many posts about the same project, it’s still not done. Well, here at Backbone Metals, quality is our first priority, and if that means taking a year to perfect something then by god, we’ll do it.
In the meantime, I puts some word together for the sake of clarity.
Question -
By looking at history, can we objectively extrapolate an accurate enough vision of what might come as a result of our actions now?
Is it possible to make changes accordingly to offset the existing footprint that humans have caused (Ecologically, Politically Spiritually) or are these things simply the inevitable and incorrigible results of our existence in the time and space that we occupy on this planet?
The Event -
A viewer approaches a wall-mounted, rectangular, steel relief that also rests on a forged steel post. It contains two sets of images within it. One set is the stages of Human Evolution, the other is a series of portraits of the Founding Fathers of America. The portraits reside in small metal, Gothic porticos that rest on a small ledge. Both sets sit in front of an array of radiating lines that are painted the colors of the American flag.
The viewer turns a hand crank that protrudes from the right edge. This causes a mechanical chain reaction, which gives the appearance that the images of Evolution are dancing over the heads of the Founding Fathers.
The Function -
A 4’ long camshaft runs along the bottom of the large steel rectangle. The camshaft makes contact with six bronze rods, which stand behind the portraits of the Founding Fathers. The “Fathers” are contained in small metal Gothic porticos, which are mounted to a small ledge, dividing the large rectangle into two smaller rectangles – the larger of the two resting above the smaller. The smaller section provides the space for the camshaft to rotate, while contained within the larger section is the background imagery for the rest of piece. The images of the stages of human evolution are fastened to the top of the bronze rods and rest above the Porticos.
